An important part missing on all electric bikes in Pakistan

Every company assembling electric bikes and scooters in Pakistan needs to include a manual parking system because it is a crucial safety and stability feature for electric vehicles. Unlike traditional petrol bikes, electric scooters don’t have a gearbox or engine compression to keep the vehicle from rolling when parked. Without a parking lock, even a small incline or accidental push can cause the scooter to move on its own. The manual parking system, which works through a lock attached to the brake lever, acts like a handbrake—holding the wheels firmly in place when the bike is parked. This ensures the scooter remains steady and secure in all parking conditions.

Another major reason for including this feature is cost efficiency and practicality. The manual parking system is simple, reliable, and affordable to produce, which makes it ideal for Pakistan’s price-conscious EV market. It requires no sensors or electronic modules, meaning it doesn’t consume battery power or increase maintenance complexity. Riders can easily engage or release the lever lock by hand, making it especially useful in areas with uneven roads, narrow parking spaces, or busy urban markets where stability is essential.

The Metro Yadea A7 Triwheel serves as a perfect example of this system’s usefulness. Designed primarily for elders, women, and special individuals, it features a manual parking system integrated into its brake levers, allowing users to park confidently without worrying about the bike rolling away. This simple mechanism enhances safety, especially for users who may not have the strength or reflexes to handle sudden movements. By including such a system, Metro ensures both safety and convenience, setting a standard that every local assembler should follow.

In short, the manual parking system is not just an add-on—it’s an essential safety feature that improves usability, ensures rider confidence, and adapts perfectly to Pakistan’s road and market conditions.

Is YAMAHA Pakistan launching a hybrid mopid shaped bike!

One of Pakistan's oldest tech websites has claimed that Yamaha is launching an electric bike in the country. However, from their story, it appears that it’s not exactly a fully electric bike, but rather something closer to a hybrid. The bike is expected to feature manual gear shifting, both electric and kick-start options, and will be available in a range of beautiful, vibrant colors.

Technical Specification Information of Yamaha Mio i 125

The Yamaha Mio i 125 is a compact and efficient urban commuter scooter equipped with an air-cooled, 4-stroke SOHC engine featuring a single cylinder and a 2-valve configuration. With a displacement of 125 cm³, the engine boasts a bore and stroke of 52.4 mm x 57.9 mm and a compression ratio of 9.5:1. It delivers a maximum power output of 7.0 kW (9.5 PS) at 8000 rpm and a peak torque of 9.6 Nm at 5500 rpm, ensuring smooth and responsive acceleration for daily city rides. The starting system includes both electric and kickstarter options, while the wet sump lubrication system supports engine durability. The engine oil capacity stands at 0.84 liters, and the bike is equipped with a fuel injection system for improved fuel efficiency and consistent performance.

The Mio i 125 uses a dry, centrifugal, shoe-type clutch and a V-Belt automatic transmission, which eliminates the need for manual gear shifting—making it beginner-friendly and ideal for urban mobility. The technical setup promises convenience, reliability, and ease of use, especially in stop-and-go traffic conditions. According to a well-known tech website in Pakistan, Yamaha is planning to launch the Mio i 125 in the local market soon, which could bring a modern, fuel-efficient option to Pakistan’s growing automatic scooter segment. If launched at a competitive price, the Mio i 125 might become a popular choice among young riders and daily commuters looking for style, comfort, and practicality.

The Mio i 125 is a conventional gasoline-powered scooter with a 125cc air-cooled, 4-stroke engine and fuel injection. While the fuel injection system improves efficiency and performance compared to older carburetor systems, it does not make the bike a hybrid.

12 Essential Checks When Buying a Used Electric Scooter or Bike in Pakistan

When buying a used electric scooter or bike in Pakistan, it’s crucial to assess both the mechanical and electrical components to ensure you're getting a reliable vehicle. Here’s a detailed checklist of what to check:

1. Battery Health

  • Battery Type: Check if it's a lithium-ion or graphene-enhanced lead-acid battery. Lithium-ion batteries are more efficient and long-lasting, whereas graphene-enhanced lead-acid batteries are cheaper and non-combustible.
  • Battery Capacity: Ask for the remaining battery capacity or perform a range test to estimate how much charge it can hold.
  • Charging Cycles: Batteries have a limited number of charge cycles; ask how many cycles the battery has gone through.
  • Charging Time: Confirm the current charging time matches the manufacturer’s original specifications.

2. Charger and Charging System

  • Charger Condition: Ensure the charger is in good condition and works with the scooter/bike. Check for any wear on the cables.
  • Smart Charger: If the scooter has a smart charger, confirm it’s still functioning properly and can manage safe charging.

3. Motor and Performance

  • Motor Condition: Inspect the motor for noise or signs of wear. Test ride the scooter to ensure it operates smoothly without unusual sounds.
  • Power Output: Verify that the motor still delivers adequate torque and acceleration, especially uphill.
  • Speed Control: Check the throttle response and speed control system for smoothness.

4. Mileage

  • Odometer Reading: Look at how many kilometers the scooter/bike has traveled. Electric motors can last long, but excessive mileage might mean wear on other parts.

5. Brakes and Suspension

  • Brake Condition: Test the brakes (both front and rear) for responsiveness. Check if the brake pads or discs need replacing.
  • Suspension: Ensure the suspension is working properly and not too soft or hard. Electric bikes rely on good suspension for stability.

6. Tyres and Wheels

  • Tire Condition: Check for tread wear and cracks on the tires. Ensure they are well-inflated and have sufficient life left.
  • Wheel Alignment: Ride the scooter and see if the wheels are aligned properly. Wobbly or off-center wheels can indicate underlying problems.

7. Electrical Systems

  • Lights and Indicators: Test the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and any other electronic systems.
  • Dashboard/Display: Ensure that the display (speedometer, battery gauge, etc.) is functioning correctly.
  • Wiring: Inspect the wiring for any signs of damage or poor repairs.

8. Frame and Body

  • Frame Condition: Look for cracks, rust, or any signs of damage on the frame. Electric scooters often have their battery or motor integrated into the frame, so any damage here could be serious.
  • Body Panels: Check for dents, cracks, or mismatched paint, which might indicate accidents.

9. Software and Firmware Updates

  • System Software: Ask if the bike/scooter has received necessary firmware updates, especially for models with advanced features like regenerative braking or smart features.

10. Legal Documents

  • Ownership Papers: Ensure that the vehicle has proper ownership and registration documents.
  • Service History: Ask for the service history to check for past repairs or battery replacements.

11. Test Ride

  • Overall Feel: During a test ride, check the overall handling, acceleration, and braking. Note any unusual noises or behavior.
  • Range Test: Perform a real-world range test if possible, to see how far the scooter/bike goes on a single charge compared to the claimed range.

12. Warranty and Spare Parts

  • Remaining Warranty: Ask if any manufacturer warranty remains, particularly for the battery or motor.
  • Availability of Spare Parts: Ensure spare parts, especially for the motor, battery, and controllers, are available in Pakistan.

This checklist will help you make an informed decision when buying a used electric scooter or bike in Pakistan.
